What does it actually feel like to be a NetRom developer?
This article goes behind-the-scenes and through the perspectives of four different generations working alongside one another to show how a typical day looks like.
From seasoned pros to emerging talent, each teammate brings in its own unique values, rhythms, and energy. Through the story, you will discover how a shared culture of purpose, innovation and collaboration supports every individual no matter their background or career stage.
What Does a Great Workday Look Like?
The reality is, it varies from person to person and at NetRom, that is exactly the point.
Whether you are a Gen X engineer with deep expertise and a confident hand, a Millennial who values balance and purpose, a Gen Z dev driven by innovation and community, or a Gen Alpha #NetRom4Students program attendee getting your first taste of the tech world, you’ll find a pace that fits. At NetRom, culture isn’t something we wear on Fridays it is built into the way we start our mornings, collaborate, take breaks, celebrate successes and grow together.
Where Code Meets Culture
Let’s take you through a typical day in the life of a NetRom developer. Is it purely code, coffee, and client conferences, or is there something more to it? Spoiler alert: it involves way more than just coding.
At NetRom we know that the best code comes from people who feel inspired, challenged and cared for. And that’s why a day in the life of a NetRom developer isn’t just tasks and tickets, it’s about balance, creativity and the kind of meaningful growth in the workplace.
A Smooth Start to the Day
Either you’re a “roll out of bed and rush to my desk” type of person or you like smooth starts, mornings in here are flexible. Forget about rushing through traffic with an empty stomach or a half-sipped coffee. Your day starts with comfort and calm and the NetRom experience starts the minute you walk in. No sad vending machines or awkward silence here.
I usually get in around 08:30. The first stop for everyone is to our coffee corners. Grab your favorite hot drink from our professional coffee machines—latte, espresso, or maybe a herbal tea. Need breakfast? No worries. Pick from a variety of fresh breakfast options – pastries, sandwiches, fresh vegan juices, and lots of morning smiles waiting in our cozy kitchen areas.
Now let’s dive into the morning!
But here’s where it gets awesome: Want to grow your skills or explore a new tech trend? Morning internal trainings and mentoring sessions are not just optional—they’re encouraged and you can swing by just across your office. Whether you’re diving into AI tools, brushing up on clean architecture, or just curious about something new, we’ve built a culture where knowledge sharing is second nature.
Last week, we had one on Dev. Essentials: Advanced Design Patterns. This week? It’s AI prompts for programmers. Nerdy? Yes. Useful? Also yes.
Oh, and if you drove to work—yes, we’ve got our own parking (plenty of it), just drop your car keys. We’ll handle the car wash, free of charge. That’s one more thing off your to-do list. Still not over how cool that is.
It’s the perfect soft launch into a high-impact day.
Kickoff & Focus Time
Once you’ve had your conversation, with caffeine in the bloodstream, it’s down to what matters: projects – stand-ups, syncs, and flow.
Whether it’s a quick team stand-up or getting in sync with international clients, mornings typically begin with alignment. We keep it tight and light—our goal is to minimize meetings and maximize impact.
Agile isn’t just a buzzword here; it’s how we stay in sync and ship release code.
Wrapped stand-up in 10 mins: quick, structured, and respectful of everyone’s time. We covered blockers, got in alignment with goals, threw in the occasional meme, and get going.
Client’s happy. From there, I dropped into deep work mode. And when you’re in flow, you’ll notice your rhythm. Whether I’m rolling out a new feature, squashing bugs, or just refactoring for fun (don’t judge me), this is the part of the day where time flies. And I like it that way.
At NetRom, we believe that developers should be free to actually develop—that is fewer interruptions, better tools, and an environment optimized for deep work. Autonomy is real. We are entrusted with the freedom to do our best, and collaboration happens naturally—over Teams, whiteboards, or quick desk discussions.
Microbreak, Macro Energy
Nobody codes best on an empty energy bar. That’s why we’ve built in space for fun and chill— guilt-free.
Drop into one of our game rooms for a quick game of FIFA, ping-pong, darts, or even a round of chess. Or maybe you’re more into music? Pick up the guitar at our Timisoara office, sit back and vibe out.
Prefer some quiet time? We’ve got cozy lounge areas where you can snuggle up with a book (via our partnership with Bookster), or step outside and stretch your legs.
Feeling sporty? Join an impromptu basketball game on our own multi-sport field. We even organize internal tournaments (football is the popular one), where teams face off in friendly competition—believe me, bragging rights last weeks.
Not your thing, team sports? No problem. Your NetRom membership gives you access to top partner gyms throughout the city, so you can sweat on your own terms.
Yesterday I’ve challenged the QA team to ping-pong. Got destroyed. My Bookster novel and some lofi beats in the lounge… 12/10 recharged.
Today just coffee and catching up with a teammate about non-work things.
Culture here doesn’t feel forced—it’s not “mandatory fun,” it’s just people genuinely enjoying the space.
Lunch Time, the Right Way
Lunch? I’m not cooking at 7 AM to meal prep. Here, lunch isn’t a sad desk sandwich—it’s an experience.
Already pre-selected it through our internal Meal App. No thinking required. With four hot dishes the in-house kitchen team prepares and a full salad option every day, plus fruit on the side. Vegetarian options actually taste good. It’s wellness without the effort: I don’t need to stress about food, I just enjoy it.
Somehow the kitchen team has figured out how to make vegetables taste like joy. Respect.
Lunch = Panko-breaded pork schnitzel with tomato and avocado salsa and apple on the side. Sat next to someone from the .NET team and somehow ended up discussing team buildings. Got everyone’s memory jogged with tales from past team-building activities. Wondering what they’re preparing for this year, I’ve just checked in the event’s poll.
So, lunches become more than food—they’re social moments. A place to meet people from other teams, recharge, and maybe even hatch your next big idea.
Flow, Creativity and Autonomy
Afternoons are for getting things done. No meetings, no distractions. Just headphones, focus, and doing the work I came here to do.
I’m in the zone, building features, collaborating with designers or QA, or refactoring something that needs a fresh perspective. I might do a code review, write some documentation (I know, rare), or assist a junior dev who’s where I was a few years ago.
Here’s what sets NetRom apart: autonomy meets support.
Whether it’s a spontaneous whiteboard session or a teammate jumping in for a code review, collaboration is baked into our culture—without micromanagement.
And our work isn’t just “write this code”—it’s problem-solving at scale, with real-world impact. You’ll be working on long-term, meaningful projects that require both technical sharpness and creativity.
I just got a quick review sesh. The vibe is always collaborative, not competitive. We’re all here to build great things, not win “smartest dev” award.
Here, you’re given ownership over your work, but you’re never on your own. Code reviews, tech talks, and instant support from coworkers are all just part of the rhythm.
Break or Bounce
Late afternoon? By this point in the day, I’ve either crushed my list or realized tomorrow exists. Perfect time to pause or play. Step outside, move your body, or just breathe.
Wrap-Up or Wind-Down
As the workday winds down, you decide what’s next.
By late afternoon, I wrap up. I push code, leave notes for the next day. Sometimes we brainstorm ideas for side projects or internal tools. Either way, I walk out the door with the sense that what I did mattered—and that tomorrow, I’ll get to do it again, on my own terms.
There are some days you’re in the mood to head home, chill, or go to the gym, and then there are some days there’s going to be a game night or maybe you hang around late enough to play a sunset footy game, chill with friends.
I’ll hit the gym today thanks to the NetRom pass. Listening to cyberpunk playlists while doing squats = peak coder energy.
The NetRom vibe, in one word?
Authentic. At NetRom, we don’t believe in “culture” as a buzzword. We experience it: in mentorship, in autonomy, through collaboration, in great food, even greater people, and space to be you—whether you’re a quiet coder, a social gamer, or both. You’re part of a tight-knit, forward-thinking, genuinely welcoming community of smart people who love what they do—and have fun doing it.
Let’s be real we are all looking for more than just a paycheck. We want: Purpose in our work, Flexibility in how we work, Culture that values mental health, growth, and community, Perks that feel personal, not performative.
At NetRom, we get that. And we don’t just speak it—we craft it into everything we do.
You’ll find an environment that respects who you are, supports where you’re headed, and gives you the kind of projects that make you excited.
Here’s the thing: I’ve grown here—not just in skill, but in confidence. I’m given space to learn, to fail, to succeed and sometimes even vibe out with a fresh juice and a chessboard.
I’m trusted, supported, challenged, and respected.
The perks? Great. The people? Even better. But most importantly, how we work is what keeps me here. No burnout culture. No forced hustle. Just good people doing good work—and still having time for life. My kind of balance.
Whether you’re a frontend artist, backend architect, or full-stack explorer, there’s space for you here. Let your next “day in the life” be one you actually look forward to.
